Christine Coughlin is a professor at Wake Forest University School of Law, where she teaches legal analysis, research and writing; health law; and civil procedure. She’s passionate about helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to tackle the complex legal and ethical issues of today.
Chris’s teaching has earned her many honors over the years, including the 2024 Wake Forest Law Faculty Member of the Year, the Mary S. Lawrence Award from the Legal Writing Institute, the Teaching Innovation Award from Wake Forest’s Teaching and Learning Center, the Joseph Branch Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Graham Award for Excellence in Teaching Legal Research and Writing.
Her scholarship explores the legal, ethical and policy questions that arise in human subjects research and the use of investigational drugs, as well as other issues where law and public health intersect. Beyond the law school, Chris is part of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine’s Translational Science Institute, serves on the core faculty of the Center for Bioethics, Health & Society, and is a member of the American Law Institute.
A proud graduate of Wake Forest Law herself, Chris earned her J.D. in 1990. She’s now paying that experience forward, helping shape the next generation of lawyers.
